Guitarist dies after electrical accident during Cleveland concert

CLEVELAND — A guitarist with the Glouster-based rock band Bad Reception died early Monday after suffering an electrical shock during a Sunday night performance at The Marrow in Cleveland. Mason Keene, a founding member of the band, collapsed onstage during the group’s Oct. 7 performance. The show was stopped immediately, and emergency personnel were called to the venue. CPR was performed on Keene at the scene before he was transported by ambulance to a Cleveland-area hospital. Keene briefly regained consciousness after arriving at the hospital. His condition later deteriorated, and he was pronounced dead shortly after 2 a.m. Monday. Bad Reception confirmed Keene’s death in a statement posted at 4:37 a.m. The band did not provide additional details about the incident. Authorities had not released further information about the circumstances of the electrical accident as of early Monday. The Marrow remains closed while investigators examine the incident and the electrical conditions at the venue. No reopening date has been announced. Details about the equipment involved in the accident have not been released. Keene played guitar in Bad Reception alongside vocalist Riley Carter, bassist Jace Holloway, guitarist Evan Parker and drummer Nico Alvarez. The band is based in Glouster and had been performing at clubs and other venues throughout the region.
